So the glacier air's been roaming through your neighborhood
So the singing sands are cutting through your backyard fence
I say you should've been ready
Why weren't you prepared?
So the visitors from the south are sleeping on your porch
So the fog is falling on the rich and on the poor
So the seashells are whining on the beach outside your door
And the authorities aren't quite sure which document to make you sign
That's when you give them a stamp and say I'll keep what's truly mine
Back in the days of plenty there were loaves and there were fish
The sun was a jar of honey and the mountains wise old friends
But the canyon winds were restless and you wanted to make amends
So you took to eating sharks and fixing ancient stoves
You debated with professors on the nature of what's real
While all the while the glacier was bearing down on the lilies of the field
And making them remember
And making the kittiwakes forget
And distracting all the rest of us with pleasant weather
